All Species Animal Care · Woodland, California

Care beyond ordinary boarding.

For decades, Dawn Gillette, RVT, has cared for animals with the patience, experience and personal attention they deserve, from everyday boarding and extended stays to animals recovering after veterinary treatment or needing more hands on care.

Dogs · Cats · Farm Animals · Special-Needs & Recovery Care

The difference

Sometimes they need more.

Traditional boarding works well for many animals. A few nights, a familiar routine, home again on Sunday.

But an animal recovering from surgery, partway through a course of treatment, unsteady on their feet, adjusting to old age, or staying away from their family for weeks rather than days, that animal is asking for something else entirely.

A quiet place to recover. Someone who remembers every medication. A patient hand when standing isn't easy. A familiar face through weeks of treatment.

That's the kind of care Dawn has spent decades providing.

Ordinary boarding

Built around a schedule. A run, a walk, a feeding time. It works, for animals whose needs fit inside it.

Individualized care

Built around the animal. Their medications, their limits, their pace, and how long it takes them to feel safe.

Care

Four reasons animals come here.

Recovery Care

For animals recovering after veterinary procedures who need a calm environment and closer observation.

  • Care carried out according to your veterinarian's written discharge instructions
  • Quiet, low-stimulation space for crate rest and restricted activity
  • Attention to appetite, comfort, incision sites and mobility

Weeks or months

Long-Term Boarding

For animals staying while their families travel, move, deploy or navigate an extended chapter of life.

  • Extended stays of several weeks or longer
  • Familiar routine kept as close to home as possible
  • Regular updates for owners who are far away

When age or mobility makes boarding hard

Special-Needs & Senior Care

Individualized care for animals whose age, mobility, routine or health make a traditional kennel difficult.

  • Medication support following your veterinarian's instructions
  • Mobility assistance and non-slip, ground-level resting areas
  • Patience with animals who need time to settle

Not only dogs and cats

Multi-Species Care

Dogs and cats are only part of the story. Ask Dawn about your animal, whatever it is.

  • Pasture and shelter for appropriate livestock
  • Species-specific feeding and handling
  • Experience with rescues and evacuated animals

All Species Animal Care provides boarding and supportive animal care and is not a substitute for veterinary diagnosis or treatment. Animals requiring veterinary attention should remain under the direction of their veterinarian.

Meet Dawn

For Dawn, caring for animals has never been "just a job."

She worked as a veterinary technician at UC Davis before founding All Species Animal Care. What she carried out of those years wasn't only technique. It was the habit of noticing: appetite, gait, breathing, the particular quiet of an animal who isn't comfortable.

People arrive here at difficult moments. A diagnosis. A surgery. A schedule of appointments that doesn't fit into a working life. They're handing over a member of their family, and they know it.

The difference isn't simply what Dawn does. It's how much she cares.

Decades of hands-on experience

Experience that brings peace of mind.

Before founding All Species Animal Care, Dawn worked as a veterinary technician at UC Davis. Over decades of caring for animals she developed the experience and intuition to notice the small things: changes in appetite, mobility, comfort, behavior and routine that can matter tremendously when an animal is recovering or adjusting.

Her work has also been described by the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, in a published patient story about a dog who stayed in Woodland while completing sixteen radiation treatments at the veterinary hospital.

Stories from their stay

Sadie Mae

Catahoula / Rottweiler mix · Ongoing Treatment · More than three weeks

Sadie Mae was eight when a tumor was found in her upper jaw. After surgery in Marin, her treatment plan called for sixteen radiation appointments over twenty-three days at the UC Davis veterinary hospital, a schedule her owner could not drive to and from every single day.

So she stayed in Woodland with Dawn. In the account published by the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and written in Sadie Mae's voice, she says simply: "I stayed with Dawn in Woodland. She is a very nice person, and she took very good care of me."

Enzo · Chemotherapy Recovery

Enzo

Cat · Chemotherapy Recovery · Multiple stays

When Enzo began undergoing chemotherapy, his family needed someone they could truly trust to care for him after treatment. Dawn became that person.

Enzo has stayed with Dawn multiple times following his chemotherapy appointments. She picked him up after treatment, made sure he received his medications, kept him clean and comfortable, and cared for him as if he were one of her own.

Throughout every stay, Dawn kept his family updated on how he was doing. During one of the most difficult times in their lives, knowing Enzo was safe, comfortable and genuinely cared for made a world of difference.

Recovery
Dawn is nothing short of amazing! She cared for my 7 year old German Shepard after TPLO surgery on his back leg. Recovery time is long and she kept him for 5 weeks. He shed extra pounds, regained his leg strength, and completely healed from the surgery under her amazing care. He adores her and she clearly loved him back!! She's the best!!

Long-term stay
No words for how lucky I feel to have found Dawn Gillette and All Species Animal Care. Recommended by UCDavis, she is a former vet tech who does medical boarding for animals post surgery or those with ongoing treatment needs. Works with multiple rescues and also takes in animals that have been evacuated from the fires. My dog will be with her for 8 weeks recovering from TPLO surgery. Horses, cows, goats, sheep, cats, dogs, chickens, ducks, geese, alpacas, llamas and donkeys - the place is a veritable ark!

How care works

A simple way to get started.

You may already be managing more than you can hold. This part should be easy.

  1. 01

    Tell Dawn about your animal

A short care request: who they are, what they need, and the dates you're considering. Write as much or as little as you like.

  2. 02

    Dawn reviews their needs

Every animal and every situation is different. Dawn looks at the details before confirming care, so nobody arrives somewhere that isn't right for them.

  3. 03

    Coordinate the stay

Dates, veterinary instructions, medications, feeding routines, emergency contacts, and any transportation you need to arrange.

  4. 04

    Leave them somewhere you trust

Your animal settles into care built around their routine and their circumstances, not around a schedule that was set before they arrived.

Woodland, California

Close to the care they already have.

The property sits on State Highway 16 outside Woodland, an easy drive from Davis, Sacramento and the wider Yolo County area, and close to the UC Davis veterinary hospital. For families whose animals are on a repeating treatment schedule, that distance matters a great deal.

What worried owners ask first.

If yours isn't here, ask it directly. Dawn would rather answer it than have you wonder.
