What makes All Species Animal Care different from traditional boarding?

Most boarding is built around volume, a set number of runs, a set routine, a set length of stay. This is built around the individual animal. Dawn spent decades in veterinary care before this, including time as a veterinary technician at UC Davis, and much of what she does now involves animals recovering from procedures, staying for weeks or months, or needing more hands-on attention than a kennel environment is designed to give.

Can my pet stay while recovering from surgery?

Recovery stays are a large part of what Dawn does. Care is carried out according to the written discharge and recovery instructions from your animal's veterinarian. Tell Dawn about the procedure, the restrictions and the timeline in your care request and she'll review whether she can take it on.

Do you accept animals undergoing ongoing veterinary treatment?

Accepted Answer

Animals on extended treatment schedules have stayed here, including animals receiving repeated appointments at the UC Davis veterinary hospital. Whether a particular animal can be accommodated depends on their needs and the schedule, so Dawn reviews each situation individually before confirming.

Question 4

Can you care for animals that take medication?

Accepted Answer

Medication support is available for many animals, following the dosing instructions provided by your veterinarian. Please list every medication, dose and time in your care request, and note anything given by injection so Dawn can confirm in advance what she is able to provide.

Do you provide veterinary care?

Accepted Answer

No. All Species Animal Care provides boarding and supportive care. It is not a veterinary practice and is not a substitute for veterinary diagnosis or treatment. Any medications, treatments or recovery instructions follow your animal's veterinary care plan, and your animal stays under the direction of their own veterinarian.

Can you care for animals with mobility problems?

Animals with limited mobility, arthritis, post-operative restrictions or age-related weakness have all stayed here. Describe what your animal needs, whether that is help standing, help eating, ground-level resting or assistance outside, and Dawn will tell you honestly whether she can meet it.

How long can my animal stay?

Extended stays are one of the reasons people find this place. Stays of several weeks are routine and longer arrangements have been made when circumstances required it. There is no fixed maximum. It depends on the animal and on availability.

What species do you care for?

Accepted Answer

Dogs and cats, and a good deal more. Over the years the property has cared for horses, cows, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, geese, alpacas, llamas and donkeys. What Dawn can take at any given time depends on space and season, so ask about your animal specifically.

What should I bring?

Their food, their medications in original labelled containers, written veterinary or discharge instructions, their bed or a familiar blanket, and your veterinarian's contact details. Familiar smells help more than people expect. Confirm anything else with Dawn when you coordinate the stay.

Can you coordinate with my veterinarian?

Share your veterinarian's name, clinic and phone number in your care request, along with any upcoming appointments, and Dawn will discuss with you how communication should work during the stay.

Send a care request describing your animal and their needs, or call Dawn directly. Because every situation is different, Dawn reviews the details before confirming a stay. That first conversation is how she makes sure this is genuinely the right place for your animal.

What happens in an emergency?

Emergency arrangements are agreed with you before the stay begins, including your veterinarian, your preferred emergency hospital, and how you want to be reached. Discuss the specifics with Dawn directly when you coordinate the stay so nothing is left to assumption.
